The Fichtner Group
Continuation of Growth Trajectory Across the Energy Transition
In 2023, the Fichtner Group once again grew significantly to achieve a new record figure of €336 million in gross operating revenues. Growth is being achieved primarily in the German domestic market, across all business sectors directly related to the energy transition. This positive trend is expected to continue in the coming years.
The Year 2023
The Fichtner Group’s business performance in 2023 was encouraging, contrary to most macroeconomic and industry-specific indices. Significant increases were achieved in all key performance indicators. This includes order intake (+5.8%), gross operating revenues (+15.4%) as well as earnings before taxes and headcount. Virtually all international members of the Fichtner Group contributed positively to the company’s result.
Through the acquisition and integration of the engineering and planning firm ‘Ingenieur- und Planungsbüro Lange GmbH Co. KG’ in Moers at the beginning of 2023, we have succeeded in sensibly expanding our portfolio for our German clients in the fields of grid expansion for electricity and gas, water protection, landfills and mining as well as urban and open space planning. The youngest member of the Fichtner Group will continue to operate independently on the market in tried-and-tested manner and advise existing – and hopefully also new – clients in its usual way.

The Key to Our Success
Structure – In light of the increasing complexity of current and future infrastructure projects, we believe in forming flexible, multidisciplinary project teams that are tailored to the specific requirements of the tasks in each case. Our success in this is based on our international and interdisciplinary network.
Expertise – As an independent German engineering and consulting company of international renown, our services are characterized by a combination of technical planning, consulting and classical management consulting services. In the Energy, Renewable Energies Environment, Water Infrastructure, and Consulting IT business sectors, we apply our expertise to offer innovative and sustainable solution approaches, which once again impressed our clients last year, with all four business sectors reporting year-on-year growth in 2023.
Employees – The expertise and exceptional team spirit of our employees are a decisive factor in our success. We continued to grow in 2023, to 2,235 employees worldwide. They are mainly engineers, but also include economists, consultants and IT experts from various disciplines.

Clients – Our clients include both public and private infrastructure service providers such as energy suppliers, municipal administrations, public utilities and companies in the water, waste and transportation industries. We also work for development and commercial banks, private investors, industrial companies and government institutions such as ministries and research institutes.
Range of services – We cover the entire spectrum of project phases, ranging from preparatory analyses of investment opportunities, to detailed planning and tendering, through to project implementation and operational support.
A Look Ahead
The year 2024 will also bring many surprises. The economic (low growth), political (e.g. Ukraine, Middle East) and regulatory conditions continue to require prudent action. In light of the positive and dynamic development in the international energy markets we serve, bolstered by a record-high order backlog, we see many opportunities in this and the following financial years. We are confident that we will be able to continue on our growth trajectory and thus continue to contribute our expertise to many projects with our clients.
Important cornerstones in this regard are the expertise and exceptional team spirit of our employees worldwide, which make us optimistic that we will be able to achieve the goals we have set together again this year, make a productive contribution to the energy transition and, within the scope of our tasks, help to solve the numerous infrastructure challenges worldwide.
